After 13 years in-house publishing illustrated books,
I became a freelance editor and publishing consultant in 2003.
Copy-editing and proofreading – I work on screen, using Word, Quark or InDesign (hardcopy checks before final delivery)
• Picture research – alongside an in-depth knowledge of many collections, I am very used to tracking permissions and negotiating fees
• Commissioning – drawing on a wide range of expert contacts, I source authors, editors, designers, translators, indexers, illustrators and photographers. I also enjoy providing script development services for authors and publishers
• Project management – alongside editorial and image-related tasks, this includes budget control, scheduling, flatplan development and team liaison
• Production – since 2006 I have extended my skills to include book production, through a mixture of training and hands-on experience. I offer production services such as colour proof correction and liaising with repro houses, printers etc.
• Scanning – I am fully equipped to convert printed texts to Word documents (by OCR), and to scan images at low or high resolutions
